We teamed up with the fine folks at the Pioneertown Motel to create this design that pays homage not just to the motel itself (aka the best damn design-forward digs in the desert) but also to the quirky, kitschy hamlet that it calls home. As (hotly contested) legend has it, Pioneertown, California began in 1946 when perennial movie bad guy Dick Curtis whoa’d his horse on a grassy knoll and proclaimed, “This is the place.” Along with Curtis, Hollywood Western stars including Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and other "Sons of the Pioneers" (for whom the town was named) were among the original investors and personalities who helped build Pioneertown - a scenic, smog-free, 32,000 acre “all inclusive filming location” featuring a variety of fully-built, 1880's-style western movie set buildings. More than 50 films and several television shows were filmed there, most notably The Cisco Kid and The Gene Autry Show.

In 2015, brothers Matt & Mike French introduced the Pioneertown Motel and added their own iconic corner to this still unincorporated community, just steps from Pappy & Harriet's. Built by Roy Rogers in 1946, the dusty, single story, 20-room property once served as lodging for the Western stars who shot on the set. Under the guidance of the French brothers, an extensive renovation brought the motel back to life as beautifully simple, artistic "door to the desert" featuring locally-designed furniture from Dan Anderson, vintage and modern photo prints by Wilder California, and a laid back vibe that's attracted a new generation of desert wanderers.

RISE WISE

Rise Wise are an Irvine, California based design team (Jun & Adriana) that got their start individually designing for local music labels. About 3 years ago they teamed up to start creating work that was more fun and more in line with both of their personal styles. Inspired by the vintage aesthetic and commercial designs ranging from the 1920's through the 1960's, Rise Wise has carved out an impressive niche as one of the most in-demand brand designers in Southern California. Their incredible vintage-inspired branding work has helped to build identity for companies like Lowell Herb Co., Deus Ex Machina, Palm Coffee Roasters, Amber Fort Bedding, Parks Project, and STAG Provisions.
